What is the curing process?

Your new wood burning stove will have been painted with a high temperature paint in the factory and as is the case with all wood burning and multifuel stoves, this needs to cure before commencing normal use.

For the first lighting of the stove after installation it is very important that the door remains slightly ajar for the first firing. During the first firing the paint goes through a curing process which will soften the paint with the heat. As the stove cools the paint will harden. This process can take several firings and will depend on the temperature achieved and for how long the stove has been left to burn.

 Leaving the door ajar during these firings will prevent the door gaskets sticking to the soft paint during the curing process.

It is very important the paint is not touched during this process.

Due to the newness of the materials the stove will give off an odour for a time, you can also experience a blue haze coming off the stove. This is completely normal during the curing process and it will cease when the paint gets to its operating temperature.

Operate the appliance at low output for the first few fires to allow the curing of the materials. Use kindling only for the first fire which should burn for 15-20 minutes with the second fire started while the stove is still warm.

A full fire should be started again while the stove is just warm but this should now burn for 45-60 minutes then leave the stove to cool naturally. Now the curing is complete.

Keep the room well ventilated to avoid a build up of fumes.
