Where do I start?

When clients first begin thinking of having a wood burning stove installed they may not know which first steps to take or what the timeline looks like so we've written this blog post to illustrate exactly what happens from start to finish, and then beyond.

  1. First steps...

So first of all you may start researching wood burning stoves, local installers and retaillers in your area and some further information on the companies or indivduals that crop up.

Having been in this business for 38 years now we are well established in the area and have a showroom in Mid Sussex with, at the time of writing this blog post, 53 wood burning stoves and 2 pellet stoves; some of which are live displays for you to see in action when the weather cools down!

We also have a range of stones that can be chosen for a hearth, a Chesney limestone surround, 5 wood effect beams and a handful of bio ethanol and electric fires too.

Adam our director and primary installer has been installing stoves and flue lining systems for Bolney Stoves for over 12 years now and is highly experienced.

  2. What next?

Once you get in touch with us we will usually book an on site visit, Adam will take a look at your property, discuss your ideas for the space, measure up and then we willl put together a quote and email this over to you.

Sometimes quotes can be done from photos sent into us via email, and then if required we will come to site once the job has been accepted to confirm any exact measurements such as for preparing a hearth.

  3. We want to go ahead...

Once you are happy with your quote, the next step is to confirm with us that you'd like to go ahead and send over a 50% deposit. When we have recieved this we will then book your project in the calendar with you. The day before your project begins we will send an email reminder of timings and to expect Adam the following day.

  4. Lead time

Our lead time for booking in projects can vary depending on the time of year & how busy we are, which stove you have chosen (some manufactorers have a longer delivery time due to being dispatched from Sweden/Norway/Denmark etc) and how many days your project will take to be completed.

Some jobs will only require 1 day but others especially when full fireplace preparations or building work are involved can take up to 4-5 days.

  5. Installation day

On the day of your installation Adam will usually arrive between 8am-9am and begin setting up dust sheets and dust extracting equipment if required, go over your expectations and his plan for the project, and then he will start the work!

  6. Project complete

Once your project is complete Adam will demonstrate how to use the appliance, confirm that it is safe and compliant with HETAS, answer any questions you may have and leave you with any information or accessories that came with the stove along with a hearth plate containing information about the flue system.

You will then receive an email from us with confirmation that the job has been signed off under HETAS and is safe and compliant to use, information regarding warrenties, user information and FAQ's, along with our final invoice to be paid that day.

  7. Ongoing support

Moving forward if you have any questions or problems you can give us a call or email and we would be happy to help although our customers always say Adam's final handover is so thorough they have felt in very safe hands and feel ready to use their stove as demonstrated.

  8. Annual maintenance

Annually your flue system will need to be swept in order to keep it safe to use and compliant with its warranty and your stove will also need to be maintained annually by a qualified person.

Adam looks after all our clients' stoves and flue systems annually with a chimney sweep and stove service during the Spring/Summer months.

Some of the stove manufactorers require an annual stove service in order to maintain the warrenty, some only recommend that this is done, however we always recommend you do have it annually looked after as it does keep it running nicely year after year so that you are without problems when the winter comes around again.
